How window films reduce heat in your home

Window films are a quick and easy way to reduce the amount of heat entering your home. This helps to keep your home cooler, improving energy efficiency as your air conditioning won’t have to work as hard. Window films help to prevent glare, which makes them great for working from home or hard-to-see TVs, and extend the life of your furnishings, blocking harmful UV rays which are responsible for fading.

Window film can be retrofitted onto your existing windows, making it a cost-effective option compared to replacing all your windows with new, coated ones.

How much improvement will you see?

There are plenty of different options on the market. Depending on your needs and the type of film, solar window film can:

  • Reduce heat by up to 72%

  • Reduce glare by up to 90%

  • Reduce harmful UV rays by up to 99%

How do solar films work?

Sunlight consists of multiple types of light: visible light which gives brightness, infrared light which emits heat, and UV light which contributes to damage and fading. Solar window films work by reflecting infrared light and UV light, while letting visible light in. This results in your home staying cooler throughout the day, as less heat can enter your home, and reduced fading as less UV light is getting through.

You’ll still have plenty of natural light as the visible light is able to get through the film – without the heat, glare, and UV.

What does solar film look like?

There is a vast range of colours and styles out there– from extremely reflective to subtle, silver, bronze, or barely visible. You can find out more about the different looks on offer here.
